Kothon – Bachik Charcha Kendra started its journey in 2015 with the vision of promoting the art of Bengali recitation and voice expression. Located in Konnagar, Hooghly near Kolkata, Kothon is a dedicated institute for learning Abritti (Bengali Recitation), anchoring, voice modulation, pronunciation and stage presentation for children, students and adults.
Founded by Smt. Krittika Biswas, a long-time student of eminent reciter Smt. Bratati Bandyopadhyay and a devoted member of Bratati Parampara, Kothon – Bachik Charcha Kendra aims to pass on the depth, discipline and beauty of Bachik art to the present and future generations. Through structured training and regular practice, students learn to develop expressive voice, clear pronunciation and confident stage performance.
At Kothon, students receive training not only in poetry recitation, programme anchoring and voice projection, but also in proper pronunciation, voice control and various aspects of elocution. Classes also include meaningful discussions about the Bengali language, its words and meanings, famous Bengali poets and the literary richness of Bengali poetry, helping students build both artistic expression and cultural understanding. Regular examinations are also conducted to evaluate students’ progress and encourage disciplined learning.

What Kothon Teaches
Bengali Recitation (Abritti)
Students learn the art of reciting Bengali poetry with proper rhythm, emotion and expression. Special emphasis is given to voice clarity, pronunciation and understanding the meaning of the poem before performance.
Voice Modulation & Voice Projection
Training includes techniques to control pitch, tone, pace and volume of the voice. Students learn how to use voice modulation effectively to make recitation and public speaking more impactful.
Programme Anchoring & Stage Presentation
Students are trained in the skills required for hosting cultural programmes and stage events. This includes voice control, audience engagement, confident stage presence and effective communication.
Pronunciation & Speech Clarity
Special attention is given to correct pronunciation of Bengali words, clear articulation and proper speech delivery, which helps students improve both recitation and public speaking skills.

কথন – বাচিক চর্চা কেন্দ্রে দীর্ঘমেয়াদী ক্লাসরুম পদ্ধতিতে শেখানোর পাশাপাশি ১ বছরের স্বল্পমেয়াদী আবৃত্তির বেসিক সার্টিফিকেট কোর্স করারও সুযোগ আছে। কোর্সটি শেষ হবার পর একজন শিক্ষার্থী পরীক্ষা দিলে তারপর সার্টিফিকেট পাবে।

হ্যাঁ। ভর্তির আগে একটি আবৃত্তি সংক্রান্ত বেসিক ইন্টারভিউ নেওয়া হয়। ইন্টারভউয়ের জন্য অতি অবশ্যই বয়সোপযোগী একটি কবিতা আবৃত্তি নিজের মতো ক’রে তৈরী করে আসতে হবে।
হ্যাঁ। প্রতি বছর সেশন শেষ হলে পরীক্ষার ব্যবস্থা আছে।
হ্যাঁ। কথন বাচিক চর্চা কেন্দ্রে সব বয়সী শিক্ষার্থীদের শেখানো হয়। ‘ চার ‘ বছর বয়স (Age: 4yrs) থেকে ভর্তি নেওয়া হয় এবং ভর্তি ও শেখার ক্ষেত্রে বয়সের কোনো ঊর্ধ্বসীমা নেই।
হ্যাঁ, কথন প্রতিযোগিতায় অংশ নেবার অনুমতি দেয়। কোনো সুস্থ সাংস্কৃতিক প্রতিযোগিতায় অংশগ্রহণে কোনো বাধা নেই।
হ্যাঁ, একজন শিক্ষার্থী একই সময়ে একাধিক কোর্স বেছে নিতে পারে।
হ্যাঁ। একজন শিক্ষার্থী মঞ্চে পারফর্ম করার জন্য যথেষ্ট সক্ষম হলে, সে অবশ্যই কথনের বার্ষিক অনুষ্ঠানে সুযোগ পাবে। তা ছাড়া কেউ সুযোগ পেলে কথনের বাইরে অন্যান্য অনুষ্ঠানে পারফর্ম করতে পারে। তবে অন্য কোনো বাচিক শিক্ষা কেন্দ্রের অনুষ্ঠানে পারফর্ম করতে গেলে কেন্দ্রের অনুমতি নিতে হবে।

Kothon provides both long-term traditional classroom based teachings as well as short-term 1 Year Basic-Certificate Course. Certificate will be provided when the course will come to an end and a candidate will appear in the post-course evaluation system.

Yes, a basic interview on Bengali poetry and recitation is taken before admission. One has to prepare a Bengali poetry recitation by his/her choice and according to their age.
Yes, there is an evaluation procedure after every session.
Yes, Kothon gives lessons to all age groups. One can take the admission from 4yrs and there is no upper age limit.
Yes, Kothon gives this opportunity. There isn’t any restriction in participating in any healthy cultural competition.
Yes, a student can choose multiple courses at the same time.
Yes, once a student is capable enough to perform on stage, he or she will definitely get the chance from Kothon’s Annual Programme. Apart from that one can perform at different stages if they want. However, if someone wants to perform in the program of any other elocution / recitation training center, he / she must have to take the permission of the center.
